If a student has not selected a
major and is not sure where to transfer, the first suggested plan of
action would be to discuss courses that will transfer to multiple
institutions. You can also provide guidance to help the student select
a major and identify transfer institutions.
Follow these steps to help the student ensure a smooth transfer:
| Step 1: |
Show
the student the courses included in the South Carolina List of
Universally Transferable Courses
| Text
regarding the list of universally accepted credits |
and explain how these courses transfer to any public institution in
South Carolina.
Recommend that the student register for courses as soon as possible and
check with an academic advisor if recommended courses are unavailable.
|
| Step
2: |
Once
a student understands the South Carolina List of
Universally Transferable Courses, help the student select a
course schedule. If the student wishes to take courses that
are not included in the South Carolina List of Universally Transferable
Courses, show the student how to use the Search for Equivalencies
function to learn how courses transfer to participating
institutions.

3: |
Help
the student to select a major. To assist students with finding an area
of interest and a major, recommend that the student do the following:
|
| Step
4: |
A
student may want to consider selecting a transfer institution based on
the greatest number of transferable credits. This information
can easily be determined by asking the student to create a

for all of the institutions where the student might transfer.
Note: Students must have an account and enter their

in order to create a

5: |
Another
useful tool for narrowing the college search process is the Transfer Profile
database on SC TRAC. Encourage the student to use the Search for Transfer Profile
function to research institutions, obtain contact information, and
learn about specific transfer and admissions policies.
|
| Step
6: |
Once
a student has considered all available information, the student is
ready to make a decision. A suggested next step would be for the
student to contact the transfer institution's Admissions Office to
schedule a campus visit. The student should also find out when to apply
for admission and become aware of any admissions deadlines. Some
institutions require students to apply for admission 6-12 months before
transferring. |
