Transfer Tip: It is important to remember that each transfer institution makes the final determination of how many and which credits transfer. Credits that transferred to a previous institution may or may not transfer or count toward a degree at another institution. The only way to know for sure is to ask your academic counselor or advisor and to get an agreement in writing.

I know my major and where I want to transfer.

If you are a transfer student who has selected a major and know where you want to transfer, start planning your program of study right away by meeting with your academic advisor and following the steps below:

Step 1:

Ask a transfer academic advisor at your current institution to assist you in planning your future transfer. Taking a class without quality advice is taking a risk with your time and tuition.

Step 2:

If you have selected a major, make sure you know the major's required courses at both your current institution and the institution where you plan to transfer. You can obtain this information by speaking to your academic advisor, consulting college catalogs, and checking with an admissions representative at your transfer institution.

It is very important to understand the specific requirements of each individual major at each individual institution.

Step 3:

Use the Search for Equivalencies function to search for courses that are required in your college major at both your current and transfer institution.

Step 4:

After you complete a semester of coursework, create a Course History in SC TRAC.

To learn how courses you have already taken transfer to Participating Institutions, including the institution where you plan to transfer, create an Equivalency Map.
